Yes, We're Blogging!

At our last meeting, our family history consultants expressed an interest in keeping this blog going. Hopefully each one will share their thoughts and some of their ideas and tips for doing family history. We would enjoy your comments!

At one of our classes, some of the sisters just beginning their family history research became very frustrated. I thought about that class for a long time and realized that I kept hearing "Well, I...." that night. And what "I" do in family history is not what someone else has to do. We each have our own niche----our purpose----our talents and abilities----our spot in family history work. Determining OUR Purpose is something that I have come to understand is a very important beginning step in our family history journey.

Genealogy or family history research is one of the fastest growing hobbies. People everywhere are finding a need to find out more about their family's past. There are tons of websites, family organizations, you name it....to help us in this search. It is for all walks of life, all ages and interests.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have the responsibility of finding the names and doing the temple work for their deceased ancestors. This is a solemn obligation outlined in the scriptures and taught by modern day leaders. Many times, however, we find that much of this work has already been done. What then?

One of the classes at the Family History Workshop will be 10 Things to Do When You Think You're Done. While I haven't been to the class yet, I can tell you that there is much to do in preserving the stories and records of our ancestors. The thing that makes family history work so much fun? Finding those jigsaw pieces of history which help us realize that our ancestors are real people who lived real lives----and that we are like them.

Stay tuned as we discuss some of these things---share thoughts, poetry, tips, exciting finds....
